On November 27-28, 2025, the international conference on “Regional Air Pollution under Climate Change: Science and Management” was successfully held in Bangkok, Thailand. The event was co-hosted by ACC-AQSM, United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), Chinese Research Academy of Environmental Sciences, and Thai-Sino Association of Sciences and Technology, and co-organized by Jinan University, the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, and Queensland University of Technology. As the first annual international academic event following the successful contract renewal of ACC-AQSM, it marks an important milestone for the center in expanding global cooperation networks and advancing regional environmental governance.

Held in a hybrid online–offline format, the conference attracted over one hundred experts, scholars, government representatives, and industry practitioners from more than ten countries and regions across China, Australia, Southeast Asia, and South Asia. Focusing on the synergies between regional air pollution control and climate change mitigation, the conference centered on three major themes:
- Regional Air Pollution Sources and Causes, and Research related to Climate Change;
- Regional Air Pollution Control Practices: Progress, Case Studies, and Needs;
- Regional Cooperation-Opportunities and Challenges for Air Quality Improvement.
Through keynote presentations, panel discussions, and thematic exchanges, participants engaged in extensive dialogue on scientific advances, policy practices, and technological applications.

The event brought together representatives from more than ten influential international organizations including UNEP, the Asian Development Bank, the International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development, the Energy Foundation China, and the Clean Air Fund, along with environmental agencies and research institutions from over ten countries such as China, Australia, Thailand, Bhutan, and Nepal. Nearly 45 high-level academic presentations and two specialized workshops on regional cooperation were delivered, building a robust platform for interdisciplinary academic exchange and policy dialogue. The conference effectively integrated high-quality resources and collaborative potential from more than 50 leading global research institutions, government agencies, and international organizations.

The conference showcased the significant progress achieved by theACC-AQSM in regional air quality research, technological innovation, and governance practices. By establishing this international exchange platform, the event facilitated experience-sharing across the Asia-Pacific region in areas such as air pollution monitoring networks, source tracing, and pollution prevention technologies. It also provided strong theoretical support and practical insights for regional environmental policymaking and collaborative governance. Participants widely acknowledged that the conference created valuable opportunities for strengthening regional cooperation and promoting the application of scientific research outcomes.
Looking ahead, the ACC-AQSM will take this conference as a new starting point to further deepen strategic partnerships with its collaborators. It will continue to enhance regional air quality monitoring and assessment systems, and promote the establishment of more integrated, efficient, and sustainable regional environmental governance mechanisms. Leveraging its professional strengths and platform advantages in international air quality science and management, the Centre will continue contributing knowledge and solutions to improve environmental governance capacity in the Asia-Pacific region and beyond, and to address the global challenges of climate change.
